“A remarkably unpleasant and unprofessional buying experience. Unfortunately, one star is one too many. The process began with a viewing being cancelled due to a misunderstanding. We accept our share of responsibility for that. However, the cancellation message did not specify which apartment it concerned, and when I mistakenly arrived for the viewing, the agent later called me in a distinctly passive-aggressive tone. Unfortunately, that interaction set the standard for much of what followed. Throughout the process, both my fiancée and I found the communication cold, dismissive, and remarkably superficial. Questions sent by text and email were frequently answered inadequately or too late to be useful, including questions we needed answered within our contractual reconsideration period. The most uncomfortable experience occurred during our second viewing, after we had already signed a conditional purchase agreement at the asking price. While another interested buyer received what appeared to be a private and highly attentive tour, we struggled to get even basic answers from Simon and were made to feel as though our presence was an inconvenience. We left early because the atmosphere was genuinely that unwelcoming. Once our condition was fulfilled and the purchase became binding, we were repeatedly told how “lucky” we had been because another buyer supposedly wanted the apartment so badly. Apparently, making the asking-price offer, signing the agreement, selling our existing apartment, and obtaining bank approval counted less than luck. Cecilie later contacted us after the apartment was legally ours with an offer from the unsuccessful buyer, while speaking about the situation as though we had somehow wronged him simply by completing a valid purchase. The offer itself would have left us financially worse off and without an apartment, making it feel more insulting than serious. We cannot know what motivated the difference in treatment, and I do not use words such as discrimination lightly. However, as international buyers, both of us repeatedly felt judged, unwelcome, and treated as though EDC could not quite understand how we were in a position to purchase the apartment. Whether that was prejudice or simply an extraordinary lack of professionalism, the experience was unacceptable. We are very happy with the apartment. We are equally happy that we no longer have to deal with the agency that sold it. Ever. Again.”
